It is the Case of the Missing Nuts and squirrel expects Detective Gordon, the aging toad to solve the crime, find his nuts and arrest the thief. Detective Gordon has a hard time doing the physical aspects of his job, but when he hires Buffy the mouse as his assistant, she is able to do the leg work and Detective Gordon is able to do the thinking and together they are able to solve the crime. Their interactions and the kindness of Detective Gordon are an important part of this book. When they get to make wishes, Detective Gordon wishes there is no more crime in the forest and once Buffy understands why he wants that, she agrees. The only part that I was really not sure about was all the stamping. It seemed to be a big deal, but I was never sure why they were stamping things.

This is a good easy reader book for the new readers and animals taking on the role of humans is always an attraction for children.

Detective Gordon is a toad and Chief of Police in the forest. He is slowing down and so, when he catches a small mouse who is stealing because she is faint from hunger, he ‘hires’ her as a policewoman and assistant to him. Together, they solve the case of who has stolen the squirrel’s 204 nuts.

To get away from the police, the culprits board themselves into a hole in a tree and throw the nuts out because mouse is taunting them. Detective Gordon is pleased because the thieves have “punished themselves.” ( )

One part Frog and Toad, one part Mayberry. Sweetly humorous. ( )

Detective Gordon is a Scandinavian book written by Ulf Nilsson and illustrated by Gitte Spee. It tells the story of Detective Gordon who is minding his own business and completely content with his everyday life. that is until a missing nuts case is brought to him by a s disheveled squirrel. He takes the case thinking it will be simple but soon decides that he will need help. He finds a little mouse named, Buffy who he brings on as his partner. The took work tirelessly to bring justice to the nut thief. It is a very cute chapter book that does a great job building on the mystery of the case. ( )
