Thierry is back from Faerie (I just really like to say that) for one more year before she has to return and become Queen. Between her bodyguards' overprotectiveness and her employer's reluctance to get a Queen harmed, work isn't the greatest right now. Mai convinces her to take off on a beach vacation, and, of course, nothing at all goes as planned.

I really feel for Thierry. She's backed into a corner and all she wants to do is have her one last year of normalcy and it seems as if no one will let her.

~ 3 Lie Down with Dogs Stars ~

Lie Down with Dogs is book three in the Black Dog series by Hailey Edwards.

I enjoyed Lie Down with Dogs. I could not put it down, but it’s not the strongest novel in the series. Thierry is trying to come to terms with the events that happened in the last book [b:Heir of the Dog|23447697|Heir of the Dog (Black Dog, #2)|Hailey Edwards|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1415887136s/23447697.jpg|43010586].

The novel was a steady pace to read, entertaining, but not much happens until after the 50% mark and the author did give the reader a few surprises at the end that I did not see coming. As for the plot development I felt that their was not much in this area, nor character growth or growing up on Thierry’s part. She does a lot of self pitying throughout the novel. I’m married to a man I don’t love, I have to give up my life to be Queen of the Fae, and oh no I broke Shaw. Is she doing anything to change her situations? Nope. It got old fast all the doubting, woe is me, and I love Shaw, but I broke him stuff.

I’m still not sold on the guys in Thierry’s life. I just don’t get what she sees in either of them and Shaw is the one she loves. Neither guy in her life seems to care for her. They only seem to want her for what she can give them. Though the author did try to make Shaw out to be a bit more likable, but I still feel that Thierry needs to dump them both.

Lie Down with Dogs was a good story, but not exceptional. Thierry seemed less than what she has been in the other novels. I hope the final book meets my expectations and accomplishes what needs to get done in this series.

If you have not tried this new urban fantasy series Black Dog, I recommend giving it a try.

I think it is rare to give up on a series midway but I am giving up on this one. I don't care for either of the love interests and since this is a romantic series it is rather wasted effort to continue to follow these characters. They are simply too much work. This installment was fun for about half the book but all the angst and discussions with Shaw wore me down. The turmoil that marks the last half of the book is too much and too little all at once. ( )

The second book in the trilogy-that-became-more, or, in other words, the third book in the series.

So, Thierry is wandering around doing her job when she calls for the Morrigen(sp?) to come collect her dead. And someone else appears and . . . wait, no that's the previous book. See, going and reading everything all at once gets confusing.

Okay, Thierry is wandering around not doing her job while trying to take down a djin(sp?). Who beats on her and proceeds to . . . masturbate with his own lamp. With some help, Thierry 'arrests' the boy and takes him in. Where-upon my 'not doing her job' comes in. She was on desk-duty, but, despite having access to mounds of gold, she was off to make a 'bonus' by capturing the djin(sp?) because she doesn't see the gold as actually hers. Also she wanted that genie guy to grant her a wish to undo the last book. All of this is important, of course (except maybe mentioning the masturbating part), because she gets called in by the magistrates, and has them ask her how she should be penalized. So she puts herself on 2 weeks suspension without pay.

Where-upon the scene shifts to her on her couch, drooling, with a large container of ice cream, and watching Supernatural. Mai, her roommate who is also a Kitsune appears and stands between Thierry and the television. One thing leads to another and they are off for a week or two at Daytona Beach. With Diode, the cat from the previous book, and Lefty and Righty (Thierry sure can be arrogant and bitchy, Righty and Lefty are the guards assigned to protect her back on earth during her 'year long training in fae stuff'; naturally Thierry doesn't take the time to learn their names, pisses all over them all the time, and gives them names like "Lefty" and "Righty" - who she puts make-up on (onto the back of their legs) so she can tell them apart. Good grief, it's like she's 12).

I got confused there. Okay, *rereads*. Mai, Diode, and Thierry drive to Daytona. Shaw, without the knowledge of Mai, is coming also. Though only as far as Orlando. Because he has a missing person's case (his sister-in-law, consequently). But he's in an SUV, which, Mai, doesn't spot when they take off on the road-trip. Thierry's Unseelie guards (yes, I failed to mention they were Unseelie, eh?) do something 'mysterious' and use other means to get to Daytona.

The vacation turns to crap almost the very first second they arrive. Though, really, it took a slightly longer time. When they, that night, went to the pool area, and this powerful fae dude oozes creepiness over everyone. Mai and Thierry return to their room.

Next day, Thierry wakes up at noon. Mai is there, starring at her. Apparently she's already had a full morning of wandering around in bikini's the size of thin strings and dimes. Ran into some seals, or Selkies. Mai and Thierry make a trip down to see these 'super hot' seals. I said things turned to crap immediately, I didn't just mean running into a creepzoid at the bar their first night. No, the seals surround Thierry and basically challenge her to death. One thing leads to another and Thierry and Mai are back in their hotel room very uncomfortable and feeling very unwelcome.

In the prior book, Rook mentioned he had a missing sister. The elder Selkie mentioned that he had 'taken' something from the 'Morrigen', her daughter. And then lost her. Thierry isn't likely to get any more information from the seals, so Mai takes it upon herself to put even less clothing on and go investigate. Only later to be found terribly terribly drunk in the bar. Apparently that powerful fae dude was taking advantage.

So, the vacation from hell concludes when . . . I can't say or I'd be even more spoiler-y than I already am. *rereads* Okay then.

An interesting continuation of the series. Good solid book. And no, my "concluding" thingy above is not the conclusion of the book. There's a lot more stuff that occurs. I think. If I remember right. ( )

Poor Thierry, she does NOT have a good time in LIE DOWN WITH DOGS. She has a crown laying over her head she doesn't want, she has a phone stalker, her best friend's family is no longer behind her, and her new bodyguards aren't on her side like she thought they were.

I was SO torn over the whole Shaw V.S. Rook dilemma after reading HEIR OF THE DOG, but I think LIE DOWN WITH DOGS did a really good job of finally making me choose a guy to root for. A lot of things were revealed and it was easy to see who I think would be better for Thierry. I really liked Shaw in book one, despised him in book two and fell in love with him in book three. Not sure what will happen next with him and Thierry, but I'm sure it will be good.

The ending? Mind blown, I had no idea and I'm really interesting in reading the next book to find out more about Thierry's Dad. Lots of action, lots of things revealed, and lots of character development in LIE DOWN WITH DOGS.
