Dès qu’il a commencé ses études comme étudiant dans cette école, il a senti flotter un air de liberté qui lui manquait. Il y a appris que les erreurs étaient bénéfiques, ajoutant : « je suis devenu un chasseur pour récolter les techniques créatives qui pourraient m’être utiles et dans ma vie personnelle et en entreprise. » Il considère que l’école traditionnelle et la société nous volent notre créativité. Voici quelques phrases que je relis périodiquement pour m’en imprégner et les mettre en application dans ma vie de tous les jours : « C’est l’enfant en nous qui est créatif, pas l’adulte. Pour un enfant, rien n’est mal fait, puisqu’il ne sait pas ce qui est bien. Il ne cherche pas à devenir un expert. » Pour Rod, un expert se réfère constamment à l’expérience passée. Comme disait Donald Winnicott : « ne soyez pas excellent mais innovant. » « Il est plus « nourrissant » de rester un débutant pour toujours, un débutant vivant pour garder l’esprit ouvert à de nouvelles méthodes.
