I liked this book a lot. It was the kind of survival story that peeked my interest from the beginning. The story was very well written and extremely engaging. There were some pretty intense moments after moments of lagging. The characters were well developed and and continued to develop throughout the story. All in all...very enjoyable. I love books by this author, his series Agent 21 is amazing. This was the first I read by Chris Ryan about 4 years ago and I vowed that it would not be my last. Now that I am branching out into adult fiction, I think I might explore some of his other adult books as well. ( )

Great story - well written with a fast moving plot and engaging characters. This is the first book in the series that you need to read before you read any of the others. Alex and four other teenagers are on an eco-mission yacht where they do not get on well together. After being punished with no food for fighting by the captain of the vessel - they sneak on to a dinghy attached to the boat to have some snacks, fall asleep and the rope breaks and away they drift. Luckily Alex has been taught survival skills by his SAS father and the four others - Li, Paulo, Hex and Amber - all have some special traits that mean they can all help when the dinghy crashes onto a reef and maroons them on an island in the Indonesian archipelago. But what is the giant creature on the island stalking them? (Yes...flashback to LOST I know...but this was written in 2002 so no polar bears here...a much more plausible explanation!)
There are survival tips at the end which are awesome as most are included in the story.

Fans of Cherub and the Alex Rider series will love these books too. ( )

Ive only read 4 chapters of this book.I think that it is realy good so far.I think its realy interesting how they are `defending themselves against pirats ( )
