First book involved superhumans doing stuff, being tracked by the OSA, and . . okay, it's been a while. All I really recall is that a woman, Kit, is pulled form something called, I think, 'Helix' - some kind of super agent military like organization, to become an administrator at the OSA. The OSA tracks, tests, and watches the superhumans who sprang up about a decade before the Next book started when a superhuman type individual exploded killing thousands in a place called Fairmont (sp?; which is apparently near Louisville). The book involved an attack on the OSA headquarters.
Second book includes stuff from Kit's point of view and Ray's. Ray is an agent at the OSA. I can't really specify more as revealing a tiny bit more would be spoiler for the last book.
So, this book. Apparently that attack in Fairmont might involve a deep dark government secret. Kit, Archer, and a small select group of others are attempting to determine the governments role, if any, while also working as government agents tracking superhumans. Meanwhile, Ray is entering the field as a junior OSA agent. Twice getting assigned as the the agent in charge of the trainees out on assignment. Which is important as one of these trainees steps up and becomes important later in the book.
All three books by Guess were good solid roughly 4 star books. I admit, though, that this one was tougher to get into. I even put it on pause briefly. I'd be more exact on the pause but that is both boring and missing information. So, I'll just wander off leaving a note that you should not read this book unless you've read the first in the series, but if you have read that one, then I do recommend reading this book here. ( )
