Starting up where the last book left off, Jessa is on the run from The Four, quadruplets whose mission is to kill all who are dragon marked. Joining Jessa to keep her safe are her best friends, The Compass Quads, along with her sister and a healer that Louis, the wizard orchestrating Jessa’s escape, felt would be needed. They find themselves in a sanctuary for supernaturals and a place The Four can’t enter. But there are other challenges to be faced in the sanctuary and changes come to most of their lives. They’re only a month away from the prophesized return of the Dragon King and as it turns out, Jessa is expected to play a role in his return.

Wow, I think I enjoyed this story even more than the first one. The characters and their relationships are just one area where the author shines. I especially love her relationship with “her boys” the Compass Quads. It’s obvious to the reader that Braxton is her mate and she finally realizes it in this book. The sexual tension and eventual follow through are squirm-worthy.

There’s quite a bit of detailed action this time and it becomes obvious that while Jessa is definitely special, there’s still a lot she needs to learn. One scene drags on a bit, but other than that, the story moves along at a good clip.

Well done. I can’t wait for the next book. ( )
