This book is about an inspiring lady by the name of Cynthia, who always wanted to, and succeed in a pursuit to study large animals. This book helps its reader to understand the importance, impact, and dynamic of large animals across the globe and inspires young students to know they can handle something as big as that type of study too! ( ) I really liked this biography for two main reasons. The first reason was the author Toni Buzzeo decided to make words like big and enormous larger than the rest of the words in this text. Sentences like "But Cynthia Moss was not afraid of that BIG continent." It was a unique way to connect the text to the elephants which are truly enormous. Secondly the author uses great descriptive words to paint an image in the readers mind. She described the elephants with their, "wrinkled gray hides, their long, strong, flexible trunks." It helped me see the elephants as Cynthia Moss did. This book presents elephants as more than just a set of ivory tusks, but intelligent and caring creatures. This is a fascinating story and a great first biography for my older child. I did not love it as much as she did. Some of the illustrations depicting dead elephants and bloody tusks were too much for my little boy. Pros: This picture book biography expands global awareness for kids. It offers a fascinating subject and teaches kids about protecting the environment and animals. There's more to our review. Visit The Reading Tub®.
