In this sequel to A Kiss Before Dawn, Chris Martel has recovered from her near fatal assault and has built Went Farm into a top-notch foaling farm. Under pressure from her partner Mary Jo Cavanaugh and her Gram, Chris hires Mitch Jordan to help with the additional workload. In the meantime, Mary Jo takes over Doc Hall's equine veterinary practice. The extra responsibilities of running a business leaves Mary Jo exhausted and with too little time for Chris. Chris and Mary Jo are feeling the stress in their relationship because of their non-connecting, busy lives. It doesn't help that Mitch is single, cute, and exceptionally good with the horses. Mitch eases some of Chris's loneliness and they become fast friends. But does Mitch want more? Can Chris and Mary Jo's relationship survive this latest challenge to their life together?… (meer)

Well, this is vaguely annoying. I wondered why the book seemed to have come after the other book I had read by Salzler. 'Positive Lightning', which I found quite entertaining. But, because it was 1.5 in a series, I had no idea how to continue reading Salzler. So I didn't.

Then I figured, okay, it's been months. I'll read the series from the beginning now. And attempted to do so. Got the sample for the first book from Amazon. Read first chapter. Found it interesting, got book. Read book. Recorded reading book here. Noticed title of book seemed wrong. Looked at title on my Kindle. Title same as title on here. And . . . crap, I'd read the last book in the series not the first. That's why the prior book I had read, which was supposed to have occurred after the book I was reading, actually occurred before. Well . . . now it's even less likely I'll ever get around to reading [book:A Kiss Before Dawn|18927792]. Mmphs. And I can't seem to get Amazon to allow me to buy any but the two I've already read, so I'm stuck.

Okay, enough about that. Now about the book I did in fact read.

I liked the fact that this wasn't a 'two people circle each other . . . romance blossoms . . etc.' but was a 'this is what happens in that 'ever after' part'. As in, the couple are already a couple. And so we get to see them as such.

I didn't get a real good idea of Chris' personality from 'Positive Lightning', but came to like her in this book here. Even liked Mitch, for the most part. MJ? The other half of the couple involving Chris? Her I was beginning to dislike.

Oh, and I keep using first names because every time I saw Chris' name I'd think of Charles Martel for whatever reason. You know, that Frankish guy. Chris Martel, Mary Jo Cavanaugh, and Mitch Jordan being the three main people whose names I knew fully. And then there's Gram, but I only knew her as Gram. And Frances. Whatever Frances full name might be, I don't know.

The book was mostly from Chris point of view, though occasionally switched to MJ. Chris' point of view was interesting. Expanding the farm. Running it. Hiring a new person to help out with the horses, Mitch.

MJ's point of view scenes were a lot less interesting to me for some unknown reason. Probably because of how self-centered she was, how career focused and uninterested in actually being with her partner. Hell, an important person dies and MJ is back to work on the same day. I won't mention who this person is or I be all spoiler-y.

I liked the book. Mostly. There were sections involving MJ that I started to skim, because I was starting to dislike MJ, and the scenes seemed heavily medical in nature. And then the last third seemed somewhat strange. It was foreshadowed and stuff but still. Seemed a strange turn. And vaguely rushed.

For whatever reason books like this do not normally dive into my emotions, but I admit I had tears in my eyes a few times. ( )
