Samurai Jack lives in ancient Japan where his homeland is being ravaged by a mightily and powerful demon named Aku. Jack used his mystical sword to fight him and eventually Jack defeats Aku after a few bouts. But before Jack manages to destroy the demon once and for all, Aku casts a spell that sends Jack into the future, a time when Aku reigns supreme. Now, it is up to Jack to find a way to go back into the past. In order to do so, Jack must wander around the futuristic cities, barren wastelands and ancient ruins inhabited by aliens and other bizarre creatures. Luckily, Jack meets some new allies and friends. With the exception of a couple great episodes, this season is distinctly not as good as the other three. (It's still a lot better than most other TV shows, though.) There's a lot of experimenting for ways to break the usual Jack-fights-badguys-and-saves-the-day formula. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, but it's always a little frustrating; you can tell they're grasping for new ways to stall. It's a little sad to think how great it would have been if they'd done something to develop the character instead of just come up with novel ways to avoid him.
