This remarkable book takes us into the heart of the English 15th century and the turmoil surrounding the death of King Edward IV. With historical depth and insight, a fictional storyline weaves around the true events. The real historical characters mingle with our hero and heroine, and all their many and diverse companions. There is suspicion and intrigue. Whilst the romance between our main characters develops, and a very real sense of human warmth turns to passion. This seems as natural as everything else, and the reader feels as much concern for the outcome as the characters do themselves. The believability is one of the most outstanding ingredients here, and for a few days I walked the medieval streets, cared for the medieval politics, and adored the medieval people who struggled and strived both with the truth and the fiction. The hero is a man of amazing character, and although he is one amongst many, I felt drawn to him as I have to few other heros in novels. This all came so very real and I could not bear to put the book down until I knew them safe. Once finished, I continued thinking of them, and in particular of this engaging hero. This is more than a great read. It is a whole new world. ( )
