However, the book it at times confusing when racing names, nicknames, and first/family names are used for the first time at the end of a section. Information is good throughout, but gets more readable towards the end. Thank you to the author for the early review copy. ( )Deze bespreking is geschreven voor LibraryThing Vroege Recensenten. THE HISTORY OF AMC MOTORSPORTS by Bob McClurg is a beautifully rendered tribute to a manufacturer you might not automatically associate with racing. Mr. McClurg has long been associated with writing about racing and he has brought all his powers to bear on this detailed history of what started out as the Nash Car Company.Soon morphing into the American Motors Corporation, this automobile powerhouse can to realize the need to prove their drafting board visions on the streets of America. To do that, they had to prove their cars in direct competition with those of other makers. Soon the racing division was born. He has interviewed seemingly everybody associated with these cars, from the owners to the drivers to the grease monkeys that made these little wonders work. Here you can find countless insights into the teams and drivers who put the cars through their paces. From the beginning of what was to become NASCAR, drag racing and the salt flats of Bonneville and on into so much more, Mr. McClurg has covered every step in comprehensive detail. And the pages are jam-packed with both black and white and color photos depicting the pivotal moments, cars and drivers in this history of the now defunct company. A must have for AMC fans and car aficionados alike, this book has it all. I won this book through LibraryThing. Deze bespreking is geschreven voor LibraryThing Vroege Recensenten. This was pretty interesting at a quick read through. However I did not spend a lot of time with it as I'm saving it for a gift. Deze bespreking is geschreven voor LibraryThing Vroege Recensenten. It is interesting and informative as it begins. It is a great history of the motor vehicles and its history through racing. Any "gearhead" would love to read about this hotrod. My husband is still flipping through this book periodically. Deze bespreking is geschreven voor LibraryThing Vroege Recensenten. This is not the first Car Tech book I've read and it matches the high standards of others with superb photos on almost every page. Throughout the book there are "A Conversation with...." which are revealing interviews with the author. As usual from Car Tech books, there are specification pages and the content is comprehensive starting in 1897 to the present. This would be a wonderful gift book for NASCAR fans. I received a copy for review from Library Thing's Early Reviewers program. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
When thinking of a manufacturer's racing involvement, AMC is not a manufacturer that immediately comes to mind. Yet even from the very beginning of American motorsports, the companies that became AMC had some serious commitment to motorsports. From the early Nash and Hudson models all the way through the muscle car era, AMC directly participated in racing. The success of Nash and Hudson in early NASCAR racing, AMC Javelins in Trans-Am racing, and AMC's involvement with Mark Donohue and Roger Penske in both their Trans-Am and 1970s NASCAR teams prove that AMC was "in it to win it." The History of AMC Motorsportsfrom veteran racing journalist Bob McClurg covers it all, from a Nash-American Motors corporate history, the first years of NASCAR, the 1960s efforts that included Trans-Am and drag racing Super Stock programs, to the Craig Breedlove land speed record efforts when 106 world records were shattered and covered by Hot Rodmagazine. And let's not forget the 1970s Trans-Am championships with Donohue and Penske, and finally the NASCAR success with Bobby Allison in the always-curious-looking Matador, which is also covered here. Never before has a single volume chronicled the events that encompass AMC racing history. Whether a hardcore racing history fan or a casual enthusiast of the AMC street offerings, The History of AMC Motorsportsprovides a unique showcase vital to every enthusiast's library.
