Storybook fancy meets real experience in a young boy's mischief. Once upon a time there was a room full of treasure guarded by ferocious dragons... or so a young boy pretends as his parents prepare his birthday party. The "treasure" is really a table full of party goodies, and the "dragons" are the family's cat and dog. When the boy dares to sneak a treat, he awakens the beasts and faces exile... to the backyard. Undeterred, our little hero outwits the guardian dragons with a little trickery, the weaving of a spell, and a whole lot of courage. But when his parents catch the conquering crusader covered in the sweet spoils of icing, it looks like The End... or at least a time-out in his bedroom. Fortunately, the party does go on, and everyone lives happily ever after -- as it should be in all good fairy tales. Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |

It's written like a fantasy, involving heroes and dragons, dungeons and treasure; but the illustrations show that it's just a young boy trying to sneak his birthday treats early.
Happily, even though he *did* get a time-out for stealing his cake, he was allowed to enjoy his party anyway.
Very neatly drawn, and very simple, sweet story. ( )
