This is the fourth book in the this Black Dog series, and I admit I rushed through the first three in order to get this read for review. I absolutely loved it! I love the twist of worlds/power between the realms of Fae and Human merge and operate in Edwards' version. The originality of thought in how the Black Dog story began (as I don't recall hearing this version of myth) was interesting. Though I usually try to stay away from romancey-type stories, this one was not overboard with the relationship interactions.

So much for Thierry's last hurrah before she went to Faerie and became Queen. The Morrigan went on the attack, kidnapped Shaw, and now Thierry has to rescue him before he dies and stop The Morrigan from taking over.

I liked this book and I didn't. I missed Thierry's friends and family (though the bits with her father and mother were great). But with no one there to help Thierry had to rely on herself and it turns out she's pretty badass. This book was definitely darker and more serious than the previous books, but it was right for the ending of Thierry's story.

Old Dog, New Tricks is book four in the Black Dog series by Haliley Edwards. This ends the Black Dog part of the series and it was done nicely.

The Black Dog series is one you must read in order to get the full plot and characters. Thierry was left in a bind from the last book [b:Lie Down with Dogs|24782164|Lie Down with Dogs (Black Dog, #3)|Hailey Edwards|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1430664906s/24782164.jpg|44415089]. Her dad is back, her Fae husband is captured, and now she must go into fairy to save earth realm from the death Goddess Morrigan. Being the Black Dog’s daughter is not easy.

She is back with her dumb luck, talent, and self assuredness. Though she still has a lot to learn, but this is the Theirry I have come to enjoy, not the self pitying one from Lie Down with Dogs. Here she is training for a big battle as well as learning new skills from her father.

The romantic relationships have truly never flown with me, but that is ok since this is mainly an urban fantasy story. The vast majority of this story revolves around Thierry and her father, which worked for me. Her father is trying to be a part of her life. I liked that feelings and past issues where discussed and that healing in some way is starting to take place between father and daughter, as well as with her mother. As for the romantic relationships we do get closer with her Fae husband and also learn that she is officially mated to Shaw.

I liked this novel. The story is fast paced with a few surprises I did not see coming. The action is good and the ending was well done. From what I gather this is the end of the Black Dog, but it looks like the next story might revolve around her friends.

Urban fantasy fans will enjoy the Black Dog series. I look forward to the next story and recommend giving this series a try.

Hailey Edwards Old Dog, New Tricks is a great addition to the Black Dog Series. Thierry’s mother-in-law, the Morrigan, is threatening to gain access to the mortal realm. The marshal’s office was attached, and Shaw is missing. This action-packed urban fantasy has one exciting scene after the next.

I love Thierry. She is a great heroine with a lot of depth. She continually grows and fights for justice. The Morrigan is the ultimate antagonist. She is wicked and ruthless. The plot was carefully thought out exhilarating. The story was full of foreshadowing. I love Hailey Edwards’ use of mythology and modern twists. If you enjoy contemporary stories based on myth you want to read this series. I would definitely start with book one and not jump ahead.

In OLD DOG, NEW TRICKS Thierry once again proves that she can handle just about anything. Shaw is missing and she has to travel into Faerie to get him back and beat the Morrigan once and for all. The danger is just as high, but she has her father by her side and she is determined to complete the tasks she is there for and save the man she loves.

There is some secondary character growth that I enjoyed in book 4. We get a new peek at Thierry's mother.. I saw her as a bit of a weak woman before, but she proves she is strong a few times in OLD DOG, NEW TRICKS and her relationship with Thierry grows much stronger. Thierry's father is able to prove how much he really loves her and her mom. I enjoyed seeing their bond grow after all the tension at the end of LIE DOWN WITH DOGS. One thing I didn't love, we didn't get a lot of Shaw/Thierry time due to the fact that he is taken pretty quickly in the beginning of the book.

I didn't know this before jumping into it, but apparently OLD DOG, NEW TRICKS is the last book in the series? Say WHAT? It honestly didn't feel like the series was done at the end of OLD DOG, NEW TRICKS and was looking forward to the next book. I still need to know more about Thierry, her dad and even Shaw. THAT is why OLD DOG, NEW TRICKS is getting a 3 stars from me. It just doesn't feel complete to me.
