From International Best Selling Romance Novelist, Hope Hughes, comes a gripping, heartfelt tale of two lovers, fighting for the freedom to...No. Scratch that. Too cheesy....two people, torn apart by the tumultuous tides of life, only to discover refuge in...WTF? What does that even mean? DELETE....two people, confused as shit as to where they should be and who they should love and none of this means a damn thing because it's all lies!Lies.I'm not Hope Hughes. I'm not some fierce woman romance machine. Hell, I'm not even a woman. I'm a liar. And while I refuse to believe my own BS, deceit masked in heartfelt phrases of love and devotion, I want to make her believe them. Because maybe-just maybe-if she can find the soul within my words, she'll also be able to find the truth scribbled on my heart. You see, I once lived for the perfect plot twist.I just never expected to actually live it.This is my story. Well, maybe her story. I just wish I could make it our story. The one I'm still writing.… (meer)

This book had some funny parts and a good ending but I just could not stay interested in emotional stupidity and angst for 300 plus pages. I can definitely see why people liked it, but I hit the sixty percent mark and then just skimmed the rest. ( )

It's been a few days now and I've decided to revamp this review since all of my thoughts have been able to settle and fully form. Overall, this book was just okay. It wasn't any better than that. It's a solid three stars because there were some aspects that I thought were really good and liked, but everything else was only just okay.

The friends to lovers trope I originally thought was handled really well, but when I thought about it, it kind of wasn't. I feel like we really needed more time of them as friends together before our main character Rhys (yes Rhys) started falling for his best friend. It was like one page they were good friends, the next he's thinking he's completely in love with her.

One other reviewer mentioned the fact that they found Fiona really annoying, and I completely agree with this. Until the very end, she didn't treat Rhys very well for being "best friends" as they were for the past ten years. Sure, I get that she's becoming involved with a person at this point and doesn't want to devote time to her friends, but it's like she completely shoved them away from her life because of this person. And second, we're constantly being told how much of a "true romantic" she is, so you would think she would be able to identify and asshole when she sees one. With Darcy, Rochester and Gilbert Blythe as examples...well, you get the rest.

I also had issues with the writing and pacing, because they both just felt sloppy. Yes, there were some really good quotes in here and some cute moments, but like I said... sloppy. Not put together. Poor pacing. Yes, there were little excerpts from Rhys's romance books that I know were supposed to be kind of cheesy, but they did nothing to move the plot along. Honestly if we could have replaced all of those with that story he started writing in the middle of the book about him and Fi? It would have been much, much, better.

Kudos to the book for literally making me laugh out loud on more than one occasion, but I don't think I'd read again, and wouldn't mind getting my $3.99 back... ( )
