PRECIOUS. This interactive search and find is so much fun and the illustrations are absolutely adorable. The dialogue in this book is very minimal but shows the little boy's fervor and excitement at finding his new treasures and as his searches continue you will notice his scientific knowledge increasing. It's so cute how at the beginning of the book his grandmother corrects him on what his findings are (A plastic triangle! That's a guitar pick.) and by the end he is correcting her! (No, Grandma, it's an urchin skeleton!) The selections of the treasures that he finds in all six locations are so thoughtful and show remnants of both the natural world and the man-made world. I can easily see this book inspiring a child to want to go out and find their own "treasures" to collect. Essentially, what this book is doing, is getting children familiar with the idea of field research and excited about science without ever mentioning the two. At first, a child can fall in love with this book for the fun of matching the items on the activity pages and later they can start to appreciate what the boy is doing and want to do it themselves so I think this is a book that can accompany a child's growth and be loved by a child for a long time. Toshi's Little Treasurs is a search-and-find informational picture book. Toshi is a little boy whose grandma gives him a backpack to keep his treasures in while on their walks. As he and his grandmother explore six of their favorite places -- the riverbank, the town, the forest, the country, the park and the beach, Toshi finds treasures to add to his collection, from a dragonfly wing to a glittery rock to a guitar pick. After each trip there is a little activity for the reader to do matching what Toshi found to what the items came from. This is a fun book and a good way to entertain young children when they are out and about by using and collecting the items that can be found in the natural environment. Its got good images, it's easy to follow and easy entertainment for a good few hours. A great book for family libraries.

This book was a great interactive science book that is cute, adventurous, and fun to read. The story is about a young boy named Toshi who enjoys taking walks with his grandma while finding treasures at each place they visit. They adventure off to many different places such as the river, into town, the forest, the country,the park, and the beach. Each place they visit Toshi and his grandma find treasures to collect. Each page shows us the different types of treasures the characters collected, and also allows the reader to participate in a matching game by matching the different types of treasures together. This would be a great science book to share with students, because they will learn about different things they could find in the environment of each place the characters visits, and test their memory by playing an interactive game afterwards.
