Charming true story of a horse who is still remembered locally. I grew up around the corner from "Blackie's Pasture," and it is a treat to read his story here, even thought some of the details don't match the ones I remember. Laid out in verse, this is the "mostly true" story of a horse who experienced as many and varied careers as many people, (and apparently, with more grace and good humor). Somewhat reminiscent of Ferdinand the Bull, who only wanted to smell the flowers, Blackie just wants to stand still and enjoy life as it happens around him. The rhyme scheme is relaxing, and the illustrations are absolutely charming. An endnote lets readers know a bit about the real horse behind the story. Whether as a read-alone for horse-crazy youngsters, a lulling tale for a child's bed or nap time, or a gift for the adult horse lover in your life, this is a standout. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
Born on the Kansas plains, Blackie likes to stay in one place rather than risk missing anything, but is gently pursuaded to try his hoof as a rodeo horse, a ranger's mount in Yosemite National Park, and a town mascot on the California coast, and finds love wherever he stands.
