Since acquiring this book, I have set myself the task of identifying a wild flower from time to time. Thus far I have identified Yarrow, found on a suburban roadside.
Why do I care about wild flowers? What does knowledge of them do for me? I don't know, but it's a fun exercise anyway.
Recently I went to the Natural History Museum in London with my young nieces. It struck me while looking around there that even as I am forced to give up the things of youth (which I am more aware of as I progress through my fifth decade), the fascination of nature in all its variety is still there for us to enjoy. And it's free. ( )
