Grey fan. This had definite undertones of [Scoring Wilder] in it. However, this one, the gymnast was 20, the coach 29, and I thought the situations were far too manipulative to pass as simple forbidden vs a coach using power over athlete. The 20 year old was aggressive, yes, but it still seemed like the relationship was a bit unbalanced on the power scale for me. This is why I give it 3.5-along with the fact it reminded me so much of Scoring Wilder from what I recall. ( ) Out of Bounds is sexy, witty and I had fun reading it despite the fact that the characters irritated the hell out of me about 85% of the time. Brie was incredibly immature and Erik could be quite the jerk (their backstories do redeem them a bit though!). Brie Watson is a 20 year old gymnast getting ready to compete in the Olympics and her chances of bringing home the gold are looking real good. Erik Winter is the new coach for the US team. He's 29 years old and definitely not what Brie expected. Brie and Erik have a love/hate relationship from the very beginning. He doesn't exactly make a good impression upon their first meeting and she never gives him a chance to redeem himself. I had no problem with the forbidden aspect to their relationship. What I had a problem with was Brie's lack of respect for her new coach. With only weeks before the Olympics you'd think her sole focus would be on practice but no, she's too busy pushing Erik's buttons. Going into this I had high expectations but while there was definite lust between the characters I just never really felt the love. I was somewhat disappointed by this book. It was slow and I didn't feel like there was great chemistry between Brie and Eric. She frustrated me by wanting Eric and leading him on, then backing out and telling him to leave her alone. Then when he does, she's mad at him for it. Really? It just proved she was immature and obviously not ready for an adult relationship. I wanted him to forget about her and find someone else. There also wasn't much gymnastics. The competitions were glossed over and we just got the results. It didn't seem like Brie had to work for anything and I didn't like her character. There were a couple scenes I liked, but this could've been a lot better. Link to full review below! Olympics? Hell yeah! Gymnastics? Yes please! RS Grey's usual witty humor comes together with dynamic characters and some serious steamy moments! This review was originally posted on The Book Disciple Brie has made the Olympic gymnastic team and 2 months before the games Coach Winters is hospitalized. His son is chosen to take over from him. He is young and attractive and Brie has trouble staying away from him. I enjoyed this story. I liked the alternate points of view between Brie and Erik. They are well defined characters with strong opinions. I like how they learn to be vulnerable and open up after many fights and misunderstandings. Once they are on the same page, it seems they are able to work together. The secondary characters were fun. Lexi is educating them all. Rosie gets her first boyfriend at the Olympics. Molly has her first love at home waiting for her return. Erik's grandfather is cute. The story is intense. It's well done and developed. I look forward to more books in this series. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
Onderdeel van de reeks(en)The Summer Games (2)
I despise Erik Winter. He's arrogant and cruel-a man I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy-and by some twisted turn of fate, he's my new Olympic gymnastics coach. I've had to contend with gruff coaches in the past, but Erik is far worse. His stern demeanor complements a body built for intimidation, and his reprimands come from a mouth so cunning, I know it could strip me of my defenses-if I let it. Though each of us would love to be rid of the other forever, we are bound to each other by need and necessity. I'm his rising star, his best shot at proving himself to his critics. And without a coach, I have zero chance of winning gold in Rio. The easiest way forward would be to wave a white flag and make peace with the man I'll be sharing close quarters with for the foreseeable future, but he is intent on war. Contains mature themes.
