Note: I accessed a digital review copy of this book through Edelweiss. I continue to be thoroughly unimpressed by Miéville. This children's book is about a young girl telling her sister about the worst breakfast ever, with increasingly foul offerings being recited (mostly) in rhyme, culminating in the revelation of what that breakfast has to do with the current one: All I could think while reading it was that Shel Silverstein did the rhyming of gross foodstuffs so much better in Sarah Cynthia Sylvia Stout Would Not Take the Garbage Out. Zak Smith's illustration style is so so perfect for China Miéville. I couldn't help thinking about all the other books by him that I've read and how Zak Smith should illustrate all of them. I think this is definitely a picture book for people who like China Miéville, and I hope that children will also like the story. I thought it was pretty good. Deze bespreking is geschreven voor LibraryThing Vroege Recensenten. I received this book from LibraryThing and the author in exchange for an honest review. I completely loved this book, and was captivated by the beautiful illustrations. It makes a great addition to any library, and I was thrilled to read it to my nieces. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
"Two sisters sit down one morning and begin describing all of the really gross things that were in the worst breakfast they ever had, until all they can picture is a table piled sky-high with the weirdest, yuckiest, slimiest, slickest, stinkiest breakfast possible. And then they have the best breakfast ever...almost."--Back cover. Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
