This cute picture book tells the story of a young girl who loves to get dress up and glam her world. Though at the end of the book the girl realizes sometimes less is more. This is a great book for introducing students in an English classroom to rhyme schemes and poetry. Not only that it can encourage students to have more self confidence within themselves! Overall this is a great book for the English classroom. ( ) Summary: In this book the author (who I got to see at Cameron read this story to kindergartners) changes the old fashioned story of "Mary had a Little Lamb" into a girly story about glam. The main character a young African American girl, not the traditional white girl. At "Mother Goose Elementary" Mary shows a very girly side by showing off the wardrobe she made of recycled things from home. Mary then sees how her classmates and teachers are dressed and shows them how to not only dress up themselves, but then at recess how to still have fun and look good. Personal Reaction: I loved that the book changed up the skin colors and that the kids were of both genders. I think this book would be good to have in a classroom library for story time or for the kids to read to each other or even just to themselves, so they see different ethnicities in the stories they read. I think this helps them relate better to the story if they are not of Caucasian decent. Classroom Extensions: 1. I would have a glam day and let the kids dress up in "glam" outfits they picked. 2. I would also on that day have a runway time so the kids could have five minutes of everyone looking at them being glamorous like Mary had. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

"Mary had a little glam that grew into a lot. And everywhere that Mary went, she wasn't hard to spot. But on the day she started school, she caught some by surprise. Sweet Mary shrugged and hugged her mom. "I must accessorize."'--Page 4 of cover. Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
