With smart and modern storytelling (a superhero who is also a first year computer science student), its seeming irreverence actually pays heaps of reverence of established Marvel lore (according to the included fan letters anyway).

Squirrel Girl doesn't just use her incredible physical strength to defeat the baddies, but also her compassion and intellect to find more permanent and personalised solutions to dissuade the supervillains from their life of crime. A breath of fresh air from all the superhero trailers that I've seen. An unbeatable series.

Aside: I didn't so much enjoy the throwback comics included at the end. They were of that stodgy format that I had associated with superhero comics of times past. But they definitely served their purpose in revealing how an old format can find new audiences with great contemporary writing/art/ideas. ( )

This was a great cornucopia of Squirrel Girl comics! I loved reading every one of them including the newest ones at the end. Of course I'm dying to know what happens to Ratatoskr... guess I'll have to read the next volume to find out. And looooove the Deadpool cards!!! Spot on! ( )
