"Leorah Langdon has no patience for Regency society's shallow hypocrisy and unnecessary rules, especially for women. She's determined to defy convention by marrying for grand passion instead of settling for a loveless union like her parents--or wedding a stuffy, pompous gentleman like Edward, the Viscount Withinghall. But when a chance meeting in the countryside leads to Leorah and Withinghall being discovered in his overturned carriage--alone and after dark--the ensuing gossip may force them together. Withinghall has his reasons for clinging to propriety; his father perished in a duel with his mistress's husband, and Edward must avoid scandal himself if he wants to become prime minister. He certainly has no time for a reckless hoyden like Miss Langdon. But soon the two discover that Withinghall's coach "accident" was no such thing: the vehicle was sabotaged. Can the culprit be brought to justice? Strong-willed Leorah and duty-driven Withinghall will have to work together if they have any hope of saving her reputation, his political career--and his life."--Back cover.… (meer)

This is another good clean read by Melanie Dickerson. I like Leorah. She's a woman with a sense of humor who also knows her own mind. She wants a real marriage--one filled with passion. She doesn't want one like her parents.

The viscount comes across as cold and a bit condescending in the beginning. But what you see isn't always the case. He's not as cold as he appears.

The two leading characters start out with the wrong impression of each other. But life has a way of throwing them together when they least expect it and it allows both of them to see each other as they really are. Sometimes first impressions are wrong and you end up grateful for that second chance to get to know someone. ( )

Title: A Viscount’s Proposal (The Regency Spies of London #2)
Author: Melanie Dickerson
Pages: 283
Year: 2017
Publisher: Waterfall Press
My rating is 4 stars.
Edward, Viscount Withinghall has tried all his life to avoid scandal and life a pious life to try to redeem his family’s good name. His father did his best to desecrate the family name and plagued the family with his wild ways. Edward has vowed to be just the opposite. He has his eye set on becoming the youngest Prime Minister of England. He needs a proper, gentle, staid wife for her role in his career and life. Leorah Langdon is definitely not the kind of wife he would ever consider!
Leorah Langdon flouts society’s rules that try to limit women. She maintains her good reputation and virtue, but she isn’t afraid to speak her mind. She meets Viscount Withinghall and thinks he is a stuffed shirt. He thinks she is a hoyden. They do not get along on a subsequent meeting. Then, Leorah is out riding her horse alone, is thrown and breaks her wrist. Edward happens to be driving by in his carriage and offers to give her a ride home. During the trip home, Edward’s carriage overturns, his driver is killed, the horses run away, Edward breaks his leg and then it starts to rain. Night falls and it is close to midnight before anyone discovers them. Both of their reputations now are tainted with only one way to repair the damage. What can they do?
While this was a good romance story, I wasn’t too sure what it had to do with spying. There were attempts on one of the main character’s lives, but he wasn’t a spy nor was the mastermind behind the crimes a spy. Other than that, I enjoyed the verbal sparring between Edward and Leorah. The old saying of opposites attract is certainly evident in this story. Two people could not be more different, but after spending some time together they both realize they have more in common than they originally thought. Edward learns not to be so concerned with what people think and Leorah learns that not everything is black and white or that what resides on the inside what is revealed on the outside. I am certainly looking forward to another book in this series! ( )

Leorah knows who she is and won’t bow to societies’s rules or hypocrisy! She is a woman who knows her mind, self worth and will
not accept anything less.
Viscount Edward Withinghall is stand offish, judgmental and a prude!
He has been deeply hurt and is over compensating. His goals are lofty but are they HIS goals?
Leorah and Edward have absolutely nothing in common … or do they?

Once they stop judging each other and begin listening, they find that common ground.
They grow to respect each other and thwart the unknown person or persons who are
attempting to kill Edward.
What was once offered and rejected may later be revisited and viewed through the lens of respect.
I really enjoyed Leorah as a heroin! She refused to take the easy road and fought for the real thing.
I respect Edward because he was able to look past his initial beliefs, finding them lacking. Had he not
been able to do this he would have missed out on what was right in front of him all along.

Yet another of Melanie Dickerson’s book that I will cherish always. I’ve already hooked my daughter in law with her first book and
now she is looking forward to catching up to me!
Her books are clean and packed with action, suspense and romance. ( )

Was this the night she would actually die of tedium, triviality, and hypocrisy? Leorah Langdon scanned the crowded ballroom and spied an empty chair against the wall next to Felicity Mayson. Leorah caught Felicity's eye and waved her over with a flick of her hand.
