While most of the characters are stereotypical we learn appearances can be deceiving and this is the theme the story revolves around. I was unsure where to start with my review so I went to Goodreads for some “inspiration” and found a scathing review focusing on the topic of eating disorders. I was confused, Alyssa is very mindful of her eating habits but I wouldn’t say she has an eating disorder. This book would be very helpful for young adults dealing with many teen issues but I found Miller’s conversation with Alyssa about her sudden weight loss as extremely helpful passage for teens looking for a way to approach a friend with their concerns. And now we return to the regularly scheduled review. Easy to read and not preachy in the lessons it is teaching. Character development maybe a bit unbelievable but I think our perception of the characters was skewed from the beginning. Recommended for readers looking for a fun book with contemporary themes. Unfortunately this book may be overlooked as pure fluff because of the picture on the cover, I would have chosen the pink boxing gloves that are pictured on the spine.
