It is so sad that this type of book is needed in our world, but unfortunately, life can end unexpectedly and it is so hard for anyone to understand, but especially children.

This is the story of a family that lost their dad at the young age of 34. When Alex and his daddy are having a boys weekend, his father suffers a heart attack. Alex, only 3 years old, goes and finds help. The ambulance arrives and takes his daddy while Alex waits for him back at the campground. When his mommy arrives instead of his daddy he begins to ask questions. His mom answers his questions honestly and in a way that this 3 year old can understand. I loved the follow up explaining that even a year later, he still feels sad and cries sometimes when he misses his dad. This book is so touching. Having lost my own father when I was only 7, I understand how difficult this can be.

What a great book for families to use when they have to explain death to a young child, whether it is a sudden death or one that was expected due to health or age. This is a really sad book but it does a great job explaining death to young children. The author actually wrote this because her husband passed away unexpectedly while on a day trip with their young child. This book was written after her child asked her this question. So this is a simple illustrated book that she wrote in response to her question. It goes through what happened, what happens now, and how to move on after this terrible thing that they have to live with. ( )
