Snow and Secrets is the third book in the ‘Stanford Creek’ series. It stars Tyler Hart, a pop star, and Garrett Campbell, who has a secret past which is part of the story. This is told in third person from both Ty’s and Garrett’s pov.

2.5 Stars

I did not read the first two books in the series even though they are about two ex-members of Ty’s band. That’s because the first two books are M/F and it appears many other books in this series are written under MM author RJ Scott’s, alt M/F pen name. When I first started reading this book, I got a distinct flashback that I’d read this book before, but I hadn’t. I figured out that it started out extremely similar to another book I’d read, so I felt I had déjà vu.

First off the cover. It doesn’t resemble either of the characters at all. Garrett is supposed to be this big guy and Ty isn’t all that tall. Garrett also has dark hair and is a guy who is more rough looking. The guy on the right looks like someone who has a cushy office job, because the guy on the left is the closest to Ty although nerdy looking. The cover doesn’t represent the characters.

Ty is running away from some bad publicity he was caught in, and Garrett is healing and running away from his past. A past his family doesn’t even know about. Both recovering in Garrett’s brother’s cabin in the woods, the two get to know each other. And it was slow going, not much conflict until the very end.

I’m putting behind a spoiler the crazy conclusion that didn’t make any sense because it was so convoluted. Some men came to take out Garrett because their bosses thought he saw someone take out another agent. Garrett’s buddies from the SEALs, capture the guys, but it’s irrelevant, because Garrett’s buddy hints it’s the CIA that had the hit on him. Why on earth would they capture the two men, when you know the CIA would get them back? If the CIA want Garrett dead, they know where he lives and will come after him again. How the fight scenes worked out at the end plus the bizarre explanation of why the hit men were after Garrett, and now he knows who sent them, but the agents will be free once back with their bosses is absurd. The whole weird conflict had me rolling my eyes.

The epilogue has Ty and Garrett becoming a couple with Ty going off to LA to do his music career and perform around the world. I’d really like to know how they intend to keep up a relationship when they both live on different sides of the country with Ty returning only for visits. I wouldn’t call this story a HEA more one of long-distance f**k buddies. Which again makes this story’s plot a bit odd. The relationship conclusion is not satisfactory.

Other issues I had with the writing was some mind-reading by Garrett, and large jumps in time without clear indication of those jumps with either scene separators or distinct first lines describing time change in the first sentence.

Overall, this story could have been better. It was slow, the conflict at the end was convoluted and doesn’t satisfactorily explain how Garrett will remain safe. Also, the relationship angle is more of HFN as Ty and Garrett live pretty much on different sides of the country most of the time. Which is strange for an MM romance book. Snow and Secrets isn’t that memorable and it has confusing parts and a dissatisfying relationship conclusion which left me disappointed in how this story played out. Also, I always consider the cover because it’s part of the book. The cover doesn’t match either of the characters so that cuts down on the stars. I want to give this story 2.5 stars, but since I can’t give half stars on Goodreads, I give this book, 3 Stars and will not continue on with this series.

Ahhh – two men, complete strangers, thrown together by Fate and locked in the same cabin. Oh, and there is snow and Christmas is around the corner and anything could happen, right? One of my favorite tropes, and by the time Rozenn Scott adds danger from an unspecified source threatening one guy and publicity-hungry paparazzi haunting the other, I was sitting back and waiting for the fireworks to start. And boy, do they ever.

Tyler, or Ty for short, is a band member and loves to sing and dance. His boyfriend recently defrauded the band of a lot of money and cheated on Ty, so they broke up. Then someone took a video of Ty getting a BJ in a club’s bathroom and said video is now all over the Internet. All Ty wants is a break from the paparazzi. His agent arranges a cabin in Stanford Creek (home to two former bandmates), but when Ty arrives at what is supposed to be his refuge for the weeks leading up to Christmas, Garrett is already there. Somehow Ty figures that things will be better if someone else is with him after all. Especially someone as scruffily gorgeous as Garrett, even if he is a complete stranger.

Garrett has a job as a translator for some secret agency, and nobody in his family knows about it – they all believe he is a sales rep. That explains all the traveling, but not his being out of touch, even by cell, for weeks on end. Then a mission goes badly wrong with a colleague who has become a friend dying and Garrett severely wounded, almost paralyzed. What he needs is some quiet time, which his brother’s cabin in the type of isolation Vermont has in abundance – except when he gets there, the hot rock band member Garrett has crushed on for a while joins him. Suddenly there are two of them, but Garrett doesn’t really mind.

It doesn’t take long for the two men to connect on a physical level, but the peace and quiet they both long for doesn’t last. Garrett has enemies in dangerous places, and when they find him, he will be in deep sh*t. The tension didn’t last all that long, but it almost killed me.

If you like stories about men in cabins in the snow, if you want to watch two guys running for different reasons meet and promptly fall for each other, and if you’re looking for a read that will hold you in suspense for the longest time, only to pounce on you with action when you least expect it, then you will probably like this novella.

What was supposed to be a quite winter getaway and a place of peace and protection turns into more than either man would have dreamed of. Together Tyler and Garrett find a safe-haven from the world, but the haven doesn’t last. But before all hell breaks loose the two find more than they could have imagined for the holidays.

This was a standalone in a series but it was richer with the surrounding characters and their stories to lead you into what was a hot, steaming filled snowy holiday season with secrets and heat. This Christmas may never be forgotten. This was a sexy, hot MMR Holiday read. ( )
