This book is ridiculously good. There's a very slow burn romance in the background and I love the pirate aspect. When YA is written how this book is written is just so delicious!! ( ) There were so many positive aspects of this book. As a former sailor, I loved every bit of the sailing scenes. I also liked the struggle between commoner and the ruling class and the camaraderie of the wherrymen. I also appreciated that the main character is a female of color, and I really liked that the book was sex positive, stressing consent. I found the premise and the world intriguing: shadowmen, gods, and nations with different rules of law. I think the characters felt a little wooden to me. The dialogue was often stilted and unnatural and would happen at unrealistic times. Some of the plot turns seemed contrived and then overexplained in the characters' dialogue. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
