Sawyer Whitehead lost his master to a tragic car accident some years ago, and since then one opportunity after another has gone sour on him. Thoroughly convinced he's cursed and a jinx to everything and everyone he touches, he refuses to officially become Day's assistant because he knows that as soon as he does, something terrible will happen. He's even more determined not to get involved with Day, despite his attraction, because it would kill him to be responsible for tragedy befalling the lovely man. Saw has excellent reasons for not wanting to get a job and not ever wanting to fall in love again. He is the only one who sees his extreme fear as logical though – everyone else would tell him he has had some bad luck that was not his fault. But once Saw lost his Master of many years to a car accident and the store they were going to start together went under, Saw began to believe every bit of bad luck he encountered was him jinxing stuff. He loves not-working with Master Day and is very attracted to him, but he refuses to endanger him.
Master Day has a tough time trying to figure out what is going on with Saw and why he seems so resistant. He manages to convince Saw to “help out” until he finds someone more suitable, but he never does, and three months later, Saw is still not-working for him and doing it outstandingly well. Master Day has also noticed Saw’s need to take care of him that includes cooking and baking for him, and begins to put together the pieces of the puzzle.
What follows is Master Day determined to woo Saw into a closer relationship and Saw trying to resist with everything in him – only because he wants to protect Master Day from harm. It’s an interesting back-and-forth between two stubborn men, and a lovely gradual decrease of resistance as the heat between both men increases. Definitely one of the more unusual BDSM stories I have read, and all the hotter for it.
If you like reading about men who need to learn about each other’s priorities and fears before they can figure out what type of BDSM will suit them, if you think everyone deserves a second chance at love, and if you’re looking for a read that is filled with psychology, sexy explorations, and some very sweet loving, then you will probably like this novel. As with the previous two books in this series, I loved the psychology behind the men’s relationship as much as their physical escapades.
