"A group of some of the most powerful people in the government, the military, and the private sector, has begun a brutal plan to quietly take over the reins of the U.S. government. They've begun to remove the people who stand in their way--and replace them with their own sympathizers and puppets. They've already taken out the Speaker of the House--whose death was made to look like an accidental drowning--and the president and vice president are next. Once they have their own people in place, they plan to start a bloody, brutal war on an unimaginable scale. On restricted duty while he recovers from injuries incurred on a previous mission, Dewey Andreas is sent to Paris by CIA Director Hector Calibrisi. The Secretary of State is going there for secret talks, and Dewey is to be an extra layer of security above the State Department team. But what should be an easy mission couldn't go more wrong. The cabal has sent in a hit man to take out the Secretary of State and lay the blame for this murder at the feet of Dewey himself. With the Secretary of State dead, shot by Dewey's weapon, Dewey is on the run and out in the cold, desperately trying to unravel the plot before the conspirators succeed in killing millions of innocents"--… (meer)

St. Martin's Press sent me a package of some older Dewey Andreas book when I asked after I got the "The Island". The series gets worse at it lengthens. This one is in the same vein as #6, "First Strike" – government scheme gone wrong – but it is even wackier and outrageous. This time it is government officials assassinating other government officials in a plot to take control. Dewey is supposed to be taking it easy while recovering from the last book and goes to Paris as part of the security team for the Secretary of State. The Secretary is murdered. Dewey is framed and somehow or other this is a Muslim plot. It seems that in the world that Ben Coes and his readers inhabit, Muslims are always the bad guys and they smell bad too. I am pretty tired of it. And what are the FBI doing in Toronto?

I received a review copy of "Trap the Devil: Dewey Andreas 7" by Ben Coes from St. Martin's Press through NetGalley.com. ( )

An awesome thriller. The book looks thick but it went by quick while keeps you on the edge of your seat. ( )

Trap the Devil continues the Dewey Andreas story from where First Strike left off, the budding relationship between the man himself and Daisy, the CIA weakened from Calibrisi's heat attack and JP continuing his Presidency.

This time around rather than an external threat, the threat is from within - a secret cabal of people within the government and intelligence services who wish to treat Islam more harshly and fight terrorism without morality holding them back.

Overall, it was an excellent entry into the series with good pace that was hard to put down. Although that being said there were a few moments that caused some puzzlement such as whilst Dewey still has injuries from the last novel, Kate, who fell down a lift shaft breaking many bones, is perfectly fine. Another example would be 4 grown men in a train toilet with apparently room to spare. Whilst it sounds absurd initially upon reflect the new trains here in Australia could fit 4 people in a bathroom so I guess it's within plausibility. ( )

For more than a decade, a clandestine faction has quietly placed its members in positions of authority in the federal government. Their long-range plan involves the takeover of the government, a plan that has claimed lives and will cost many others, including the president and the vice-president, their lives.

One woman has accidentally discovered their secret. One man, framed by these powerful men for the murder of the Secretary of State, must expose the group in order to save the life of President Dellenbaugh.
That man is Dewey Andreas.

This, the seventh Dewey Andreas narrative, grabs readers from the first page and takes them on a harrowing roller coaster ride, offering unexpected twists in a relentless, unputdownable tale. The thoughtful plot, peopled with believable characters, spins out a riveting tale that promises to keep readers on the edge of their seats until the final page is turned.

Highly recommended. ( )
