I'm putting this in memoir-autobiography, because it is clearly based on one author's life, and I can't tell how fictional it is. Very straightforward storytelling, that is nonetheless highly evocative of life with Asperger's. I like the pacing, the direct address to the reader, the art. I also delighted in watching Marguerite flower after receiving her diagnosis. It's lovely. Advanced reader's copy provided by Oni press. This Book is an insightful look at what it means to be neurodiverse. The extra pressures one undergoes when distractions are too much, when small talk can be difficult, and when you really prefer to be alone doing your own activity because it's blissfully quiet. In a world of extroverts, being an introvert can be hard enough. Though I'm not autistic, having ADHD, anxiety, depression, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia and insomnia - I could still really connect with this story. I hate having to explain myself to others, appearing different or quirky... but I'm learning to embrace it and love myself in spite of it. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

"Marguerite feels awkward, struggling every day to stay productive at work and keep up appearances with friends. She's sensitive, irritable at times. She makes her environment a fluffy, comforting cocoon, alienating her boyfriend. The everyday noise and stimuli assaults her senses, the constant chatter of her coworkers working her last nerve. Then, when one big fight with her boyfriend finds her frustrated and dejected, Marguerite finally investigates the root of her discomfort: after a journey of tough conversations with her loved ones, doctors, and the internet, she discovers that she has Aspergers. Her life is profoundly changed - for the better" --Amazon. Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
