Jude belongs to a hit country band and country music and its fans aren't always the most accepting in the world (this is the view of the book, not necessarily my own view!). Derek on the other hand comes from a military background and a very conservative Southern Baptist family, neither is conducive to coming out. So here we have two guys who are attracted to each other and they don't realize the other is gay as well. The characters in this book are incredibly complex and well-developed. The plot is also complex but still easy to follow along with. I loved the ending and I'm thrilled that Jude and Derek were able to remain together. Then their first sex scene makes no sense, too much too fast for one of them right after an emotional event, and too mechanically described to be hot. I hate it when authors ruin good characterization like this. I realize some readers read for the sex scenes. When they grow out of that, they'll see what I mean. The author gave me people who felt real, but ruined it by just crashing her Ken dolls together. Gross. While I don't mind the smexing, when the ratio of sexy times starts to overtake the actual story, I find myself skipping those scenes, which I'm sure is not what the author intended. While it can also be listened to on its own, Jumping Jude is the third in the Made Marian series. Each book tells the story of one of the Marian brothers' search for true love.
