Deze bespreking is geschreven voor LibraryThing Vroege Recensenten. Best book of the series. Humanity needs saving once again. Those Erescopians just don’t give it up. I'm not one for romance novels but David's ability to search Jess's soul and share his own is an amazing feat. Imagine if human beings connected this way, the vulnerability. Other than that Jess's inability to be without David was tiresome. Two seconds away from him and she's freaking out. Jess has helped save Earth twice already I think the author could have made her tougher in this third installment. I liked that this book contained more of the sci-fi aspect; which is what I was waiting for. Aquatic creatures, Ruby and Silver were a nice addition. Ruby's situation and willing sacrifice tugged a heartstring. There were a couple moments when things were too unbelievable; there was one point where they should've died but it is fiction so the science doesn't really have to meet up. Its got twists, its got turns, its got action. I still think Edgar is the true hero of the series. Team grassen! Deze bespreking is geschreven voor LibraryThing Vroege Recensenten. This book starts a start two years after the Ashes in the Sky and Jess is away at Columbia, trying to concentrate on schoolwork avoiding people that want to take her picture, and trying not to think about David. Then David shows up and tells her Earth is in danger of the scourge again if he cannot figure out how to make it rain on Mars, which starts this new adventure. I absolutely love this series; it is a great blend of romance and science fiction with a good bit of humour and snark. This book has more twists and turns and that ending! I love the story and I love the characters. I love it all. I would highly recommend. Deze bespreking is geschreven voor LibraryThing Vroege Recensenten. Wow! Just wow! Intense. Exciting. Edge of seat suspense. These are just a few of the adjectives I can apply to this series. I loved it from the first book. I was hooked. David and Jess are a match destined to be together but forces keep pulling them apart. The sci-fi aspects of the book were spot on. I loved the ship. The alien people. The planets. The weapons. I loved everything about it actually. I was not expecting the ending but it fits. It feels right somehow. David and Jess were going to die so many times, it is just a miracle that they are still alive. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
Alien scientist David has dealt with disappointment his entire life, but failing to breathe life into the planet Mars is his greatest regret. Out of options and in need of a new home for their people, the alien Caretakers rekindle their plan to inhabit Earth. First they will have to eliminate the human race, including Jess, the only human David holds dear. Humanity has one final chance at survival. David needs to emulate Earth's precipitation on Mars. But the catalyst to make it rain lies in the fathomless depths of Earth's ocean. The clock is ticking down to humanity's last hours as Jess and David face a world more alien than either of them can imagine. The sea hides secrets, but some secrets don't want to be found. Embers in the Sea is part one of the heart-stopping conclusion to Jennifer M. Eaton's high-action "Fire in the Woods" series. Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |

Both Jess and David appeared to be well-rounded characters, with quirks that I came to love. Joining their sea-exploring journey was ten-legged arachnid, Edgar. Edgar made for a loveable pet and companion, much to my own surprise. I've never liked arachnids, or spiders (too many legs if you ask me), but Edgar was just the right amount of terrifying and adorable.
Jess and David's relationship is an interesting one and fluctuates between fun and faux-argumentative, and deeply loving. They made for an endearing, yet realistic couple with great teamwork skills and cool heads in a crisis.
I liked how stubborn David was at times. He often felt like a shell of a man, not through a lack of complexity, but emotionally. He is a perfect contrast to Jess' headstrong and more sarcastic personality. The pair share a good sense of humour that is vital to lightening the mood through this rather tense novel.
The plot was well constructed, with near-constant tension and plenty of close-calls that kept me on edge and turning the pages. The main theme I identified was survival as every moment seemed to bring some new challenge to Jess and David's mission to save the Earth.
I got along with the author's writing style and loved how they so effortlessly had me deep in the emotional turmoil of the characters.
Easily one of the best books I've read this year.
