( ) “Gentlemen, Eidolon is another word for ghost. Or spectre.” Dark money moving into Britain. MI5 seems to be compromised. 007 must protect MI6 and uncover what is happening, and if SPECTRE is rising up again! Great art! And Bond is just as I like him - especially the very last panel! Spot on! The plot is a little messy, and I felt like some of the information was presented more than once. Of the three volumes I've read of this series, this felt like the weakest. I really do love [a: Warren Ellis|12772|Warren Ellis|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1447009436p2/12772.jpg]'s take on James Bond. While [b: VARGR|28820820|James Bond, Vol. 1 VARGR|Warren Ellis|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1487997465s/28820820.jpg|50339329] was a solid entry into the modern canon of Bond, [b: Eidolon|31181100|Eidolon|Sofi Croft|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1469008995s/31181100.jpg|51821765] was a much stronger entry overall. We've stronger female characters, and Ms. Moneypenny finally gets to show her stuff. In addition we also have a strong continuation of the SPECTRE plots of the original [a: Ian Fleming|2565|Ian Fleming|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1364532740p2/2565.jpg] canon. This feels like a very natural extension of the stories, and even Mr. Leiter makes an entrance into the foray. Well done, Ellis. I wish you'd more than two arcs. [b: Eidolon|31181100|Eidolon|Sofi Croft|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1469008995s/31181100.jpg|51821765] sees the return of SPECTRE in the form of a stay-behind cell. The argument over the Hard Rule (MI6 not being allowed firearms within the British borders) continues, as does the tensions between MI5 and MI6. The political aspects of this volume were well in keeping with Bond tradition, and although there were no real exotic locales we did get a bit of Felix Leiter which more than made up for that in my opinion. The plot isn't as dense as other Bond entries, but I feel as if that is more in keeping with the short run than anything else. There's action, the obligatory torture sequence, and plenty of smart quips and sophisticated drinks. What more does one need? Oh, perhaps a bit of criticism over Bond's choice in firearm? You'll get that, too. Thankfully. I adored this volume, and wish there was more [a: Warren Ellis|12772|Warren Ellis|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1447009436p2/12772.jpg] Bond to look forward to. Perhaps at some point in the future? I'll definitely continue following Dynamite's Bond series in any case. It should be interesting to see what other illustrators and authors bring to the plate in the future. I definitely don't see it getting old any time soon. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

"James Bond is trapped in Los Angeles, under fire alongside another MI6 agent with a foreign intelligence service -- or perhaps more than just one -- trying to put them both in body bags. Things may not be any safer in Britain, with bodies dropping and ghosts moving in the political mist..." -- Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
