In The Legion of Regrettable Supervillains, Jon Morris so of the most bizarre foes to battle across the four-color pages in comics history. Morris writes, "No matter the shape, size, or strategy of the four-color finks gracing these pages, every one of them had the potential to join the ranks of comicdom's icons of evil. It was only poor sales, inopportune timing, and occasional overshadowing from bigger baddies which consigned so many of these scoundrels to the scrapheap of comics history" (pg. 9). Morris organizes the encyclopedic book chronologically, spending most of his time on the Golden Age of comics before moving on to the Silver and Modern Ages. A couple of the villains, ridiculous as they are, have managed to survive and stick around, those most never caught on or appeared in books that flopped. My only critique deals with Morris' chronology. Morris combines the Bronze and Modern Ages of comics and the types of villains he groups together play on different tropes, demonstrating the subtle variations between these two periods. Otherwise, The Legion of Regrettable Supervillains will entertain comics fans and makes a nice companion to Morris' other book, The League of Regrettable Superheroes. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

Every hero needs a villain. But not every villain comes with a cool costume, sinister pseudonym, or functioning death ray. Some super-crooks are incompetent, some are comical, and some are just weird. In this follow-up to The league of regrettable superheroes, author Jon Morris presents dozens of the strangest, most stupefying supervillains ever to see print in comics. This book splits up the comic books into three eras, 1938-1949 The Golden Age, 1950-1969 The Silver Age, and 1970-Present The Modern Age. The author explains what drove the artists in each era and gives a quick review of various villains from those eras.
Anyway if you want to learn a little bit about some regrettable supervillains or if you just like comic books then you should pick up a copy. I personally got a few laughs from it. ( )
