Bun is not a typical rabbit. In this book, she decides that she wants to be rich and famous one day. Bun earns carrots for doing certain tasks and the carrots are equal to money. For example, if Bun walks the dog and sings to her brother she earns one carrot. She talks to her mother about wanting to be rich and famous and her mother tells her if she wants to earn some more carrots she can help her out in the garden. So she helps her mother in the garden and does her chores and earns carrots. Bun realizes if she starts singing at school concerts someone will discover her and she will be famous. She also realizes that if she saves her carrots she will be rich. If she works hard and saves her carrots she will have “earned it”. McLeod creates a story with a great ending. Her illustrations help tell the story about Bun and they are drawn as though a younger child drew them. The words in this book are written in a child’s handwriting. At the end she also invites children to count Bun’s carrots. McLeod’s book could be tied with math curriculum to help children who are learning to count, because they can count the carrots when Bun earns them. Young children are sure to enjoy this story.
