Did you know that a can of Campbell's tomato soup was a mere 11 cents in 1967? What about the fact that eggs were just 38 cents per dozen and a Hershey chocolate bar only five cents? 1967 certainly had a cost of living that might make you want to invent the first time machine, although we must remember that the minimum wage was just $1.40 per hour and the average annual income was $7,300. Yes, it was an entirely different world. 1967 was a memorable year in the United States, in every area of culture and society. While young people and "hippies" established the counterculture and "Summer of Love" while protesting the Vietnam War, a wide variety of influential movies, music, and books were released to critical and popular acclaim. This exciting book has sections on: Political players of the period Cost of living Average income Important events of the year Celebrities born in 1967 Top Movies Top Music Top Books Top Sports The Great Book of 1967 is a fantastic birthday gift for friends who were born in 1967. They will be thrilled to find how many of the celebrities we love today were born in the same year. Will Farrell, Faith Hill, Julia Roberts, Nicole Kidman, Jamie Foxx, and Laura Dern? All 1967 babies! This incredible book is also a great choice for anyone who is interested in 20th-century popular culture and history.… (meer)

Trivia is always a fun read, especially when it brings back memories of your own childhood. Kind of nice knowing that I was born just prior to the 'Summer of Love'! This was a quick read and interesting, though I would have preferred more information about what was happening socially than the long lists of music and entire football teams. It was a nice reminder of the way things used to be and highlighted just how far we have come (not necessarily always a good thing). Would make a great gift for anyone born in that year. ( )

What is so memorable about 1967? LBJ was president, The Beatles were at the height of the music charts, a Hershey Bar sold for 5 cents, we marched on Washington to protest the Vietnam War, and I graduated from high school. 1967 was a year of change; thrilling to be a part of, but troubling for our parents’ generation. ‘Don’t trust anybody over 30’ was the mantra we lived by.

Changes that started in 1967 ultimately led to ending of the Vietnam war and to the birth of the American Basketball Association. Walter Moore, the author of The Great Book of 1967, listed 100 books that were best sellers in 1967. Sadly, I didn’t remember any of them. The only excuse I can give is that I was busy determining my path to self-sufficiency and chasing girls. Reading for pleasure was not something I had an interest in during that year.

‘The Great Book of 1967’ was a trip down memory lane for me and will be for anyone else who lived during the 1960’s. Written in a narrated list format, you can easily skip listings that are of limited interest for you. The book only took about 4 hours to read as its format makes for quick reading. The reading delays I experienced were due to need for reflective respite whenever I came across a subject that was an important part of my past.

This book is a must read for anyone who has an interest in the 1960’s. ( )
