Derek feels stress to have approval from his family, and telling them he has a boyfriend gets them off his back...until they push him to meet the non-existent boyfriend. Luke's friend owns a PG escort service and convinces Luke to take this 4 event case because it will give him the money he needs to fix up the bar he owns with his family. Of course, the more time they spend together the more they like each other. There is a bit of doubt on each other's part because it started out as a paid arrangement. Luckily, an unexpected ally helps them get past their doubts, and the guys head towards their happily ever after. I really enjoyed the banter between the two, and I loved watching Derek take a little ownership of his life and stand up for himself. Great Christmas time story. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

I received this book from Booksprout for an honest and unbiased opinion.
First off, I want to say the cover is adorable. It’s a nice idea to have a cheeky snowman instead of the usual handsome men.
I enjoyed this story. It was a light, no angst holiday read and is character based so there aren’t many exciting events. The plot moves along at a nice steady pace and I wasn’t bored. The blurb gives a good idea of what the book is about so I won’t repeat it much.
Derek is the head of the ad company started by his grandfather, then run by this father. The company has employees who’ve been around since Derek’s grandfather hired them and they are stuck in the old ways. Derek feels his parents are helicopter parents that don’t allow him to make his own mistakes, figure out his own solutions or take credit for his ideas. He resents them. Derek is wound so tight, he’s lied to his parents about having a fake boyfriend named Markus. His mother corners Derek into a dinner with ‘Markus’ and Derek starts the search for a fake boyfriend.
Luke is desperate. His family business, a bar needs to pay bills but the bank turned down his request for a loan. In steps Luke’s friend, who runs a dating agency and Luke reluctantly accepts the job of becoming Markus. Little does Derek know that Luke has a secret.
Derek and Luke don’t hit it off right away, other than lust at first sight. Derek is wound so tight, he’s a jerk and treats Luke like a commodity. If Luke doesn’t behave exactly like Derek has planned, he freaks. Luke is a calm character. I thought the author did a good job of creating distinctive personalities, although Luke felt like he was younger in the beginning than he seemed at the end. Luke helped along Derek’s personal growth and the process wasn’t rushed in the story. I thought the characters fit well together and they were believable as a couple.
Mostly I enjoyed this book but with one major issue, that is likely just me personally. I’ll put it behind a spoiler.
Overall, I enjoyed this book except for the one troublesome issue I had which I posted behind the spoiler. I think if the author hadn’t used that as her sympathy grabbing moment, I’d probably give this story five stars, but I can’t do it. Instead, I give Love Happens Anyway, 4 Stars.
