A spate of murders, deranged scientists and heavily armed mercenaries-little wonder there's a state of panic at Scotland Yard. Chief Inspector Brian Hooley has a plan, and it won't make him popular. He wants to bring back autistic detective Jonathan Roper. Currently suspended on misconduct charges, his condition, coupled with a relentless work-ethic, makes Roper a unique investigator with observational skills that allow him to see what others miss. But he is also a complex man who doesn't get social boundaries and plenty of his colleagues just don't like him. Hooley doesn't care about that. He knows Roper is the one to make a difference. What follows is a roller coaster ride with the veteran cop about to find out what it's like to be the subject of Roper's unflinching gaze as his personal habits face intense scrutiny. This special relationship is warmly observed and provides a comic contrast to a darkly compelling story where the pair is pushed to the limit.… (meer)

Jonathan Roper is autistic and employed as an investigator to the Special Investigation Unit of the police. Reporting to Detective Chief Inspector Brian Hooley. Sir James Taylor goes missing and parts of his body are found weeks later. But why and who needs to be determined, and the case is passed on to the Unit
An enjoyable mystery story ( )

Jonathan Rober is autistic and thus a brilliant detective, hmm. More interesting to me was how the people around him react to his difference, so that made the book worth reading for me. The plot itself is possibly a bit far fetched, esp for the first in a series, dealing with cancer cures and the crimes that would come out of having such thing at your fingertips. ( )

I loved this book. It was not only a winning page-turner of a detective novel, it gave a very realistic look at life with an Autistic person. I was enthralled by the tidbits and insights dropped by Roper as he discovered the truth in his own unique way, and loved the descrip[tions of what made him "tick". ( )
