Another great opposites-attract romance buy Alice Winters full of snark and action! Joel Leslie brings it with the narration! ( )

I listened to the audio version of this which is something that I seldom do. I can read faster than the narrator reads, and I don't always like the emphasis that the reader puts on the voices of the characters. It has taken over a week to get through what is a bit over 300 printed pages. I did like the idea of the story, but most of Lane's actions seemed implausible. I just don't think an agent of any type would drag a care giver off and involve him in the dilemmas that Felix put Lane into. I realized that they were running for their lives and a blind man, and a care giver is not the same as having a seeing eye dog although the dog would have been better trained for the job. The one thing that held my attention and got me to the end was the humor that popped up so unexpectantly between Felix and Lane throughout the story. Felix would come up with some of the craziest and funniest off the wall remarks. Loved the part where Lane was trying to get evidence of drug smuggling for Felix and wound up in a brothel in Vegas trying to pretend to want to hire one of the girls and that he wasn't a gay man at all. The characters are such opposites that they shouldn't have worked at all...but somehow, they did. I think I'll get the book and see if it works more for me. ( )

3 stars but I don't think this is poorly done necessarily, I just think it really wasn't for me. I started with listening to this as an audiobook but I was getting annoyed because for romance, even if I turn it up to 3x speed, my actual reading speed is usually faster than the audiobook (This is not true with other slower genres like fantasy or non-fiction). Luckily, this title was available an Kindle unlimited to I switched to the ebook.

I think this one was hard for me because I didn't think it was poorly written really but it had a character type that I really don't like. Felix, one of the main characters is the type that is always goofy and joking, even in the most serious moments. I almost never like characters like that but it especially didn't work for me here because I didn't find him particularly funny. I thought Lane, our other main, was fine but honestly pretty boring for a former cop who is tortured in the first scene in the book.

I also didn't understand the grounding of their relationship at all. It started off very quickly (and unprofessionally) in like the first 30 pages but it seemed like that was just sex. But then by the end of the book they're in what looks to be a very serious relationship. I just didn't really see any development leading to that point so it felt like their relationship stayed in the same spot the whole time. As far as I could tell, the whole relationship was based on Lane asking Felix if he was alright over and over again.

The plot was very all over the place for me. This was the sort of plot that I don't like in romances where the action and the romance felt very separate and the action didn't really drive the romance in any way. I wish that those two thread had linked up more to make a more cohesive story.

I don't really think this is a bad book. The writing was fine and I think a lot of people could really like the action of the plot, that's why I rated it 3 stars and not something lower. However, a lot of things that I personally don't like combined in this book to make it a miss for me. ( )

I really loved Felix and Lane. They were two very snarky characters who were a perfect match. I chuckled at their interactions through most of the book. Lane has been dealing with recent injuries and blindness, and Felix was hired to take care of him. Felix quickly learns that Lane doesn't like being coddled, and he treats him just like he would treat any other snarky, grumpy person he would meet. That was pretty endearing to Lane after a while, and they were great together.

There was a lot of action and kidnapping and getting out of sticky situations that they just couldn't help throwing themselves into. At times I had to shake my head at the ridiculousness of the character's decisions (like Felix going out by himself), but it was entertaining and I really enjoyed reading it regardless. This is a series that I am excited to continue.

Oh my.

You wouldn't think, from the synopsis, that this would be as funny as it is, but it is totally hilarious on top of being action packed and full of suspense.

The way that Felix and Lane interact is just fantastic. I love how Felix prods and goads Lane into doing things to help himself, even if he doesn't really want to.

They are just so freaking cute together. ( )
