Imagine a sustainable world, run on clean and renewable energies that are less aggressive to the environment. Now imagine humanity under the impact of these changes. This is the premise Brazilian editor Gerson Lodi-Ribeiro proposed, and these authors took the challenge to envision hopeful futures and alternate histories. The stories in this anthology explore terrorism against green corporations, large space ships propelled by the pressure of solar radiation, the advent of photosynthetic humans, and how different society might be if we had switched to renewable energies much earlier in history. Originally published in Brazil and translated for the first time from the Portuguese by F?bio Fernandes, this anthology of optimistic science fiction features nine authors from Brazil and Portugal including Carlos Orsi, Telmo Mar?al, Romeu Martins, Antonio Luiz M. Costa, Gabriel Cantareira, Daniel I. Dutra, Andr? S. Silva, Roberta Spindler, and Gerson Lodi-Ribeiro.… (meer)

An anthology of nine Brazilian and Portuguese short stories translated into English that provide a “a sustainable world, run on clean and renewable energies that are less aggressive to the environment.” However, this premise doesn’t necessarily result in equality, freedom, and justice. A mixed bag a stories. ( )

I got this from Early Reviewers, and although the stories were (generally) as good as in the previous solarpunk anthology on Early Reviewers translated from the Portugese, I found this anthology didn't hold my attention as well. Partly I think this was down to the somewhat uneven translation - I thought it very stilted in places and there were a some passages that made no sense to an English speaker.

Otherwise, the stories were of interest riffing on the South American setting. I was reminded of some of (IIRC) Alan Dean Foster's and Poul Anderson's future histories where the social and economic power on Earth has shifted to the southern hemisphere from the northern so it makes a change from the usual European and North American backgrounds.

I received this book from Early Reviewers, and I really enjoyed it. Translated from Portuguese, the stories are based in Brazil, which puts a completely different spin on fantasy. Many thanks to the translator, and those who contributed to the Kickstarter campaign to get this translated. ( )

Quite an unusual collection of short stories. The theme is sustainability, but sometimes that is very subtle in these stories. As with any collection, some are better than others, but several really reeled me in. Translated from Portuguese, generally very well (but sometimes feeling a little stilted.) A wide variety of styles and plots. ( )
