Out of all the species that Grace Goodwin has created, my favorite of them all is the Atlans. There's just something about those big guys that is just so appealing. They are just so delightfully alpha and primal. I want one. Of all the Atlans that Grace has written about, Warlord Anghar is definitely near and dear to my heart. We've seen him in several books now, and it was just about time for him to get his own story. I have to say that I'm terribly jealous of Kira, because, well, Angh.

Angh was saved from the Hive and now he has to live on the Colony. He's been there for a couple of years and he's bored, tired, and lonely. He went through the bride testing protocols years ago, but he hasn't been matched, and now he doesn't think that he ever will be. For fun, he goes and fights in the Pit.

Kira is an instructor at the Academy and she's a member of the Coalition's intelligence arm, on the down low. Every training cycle the Academy brings their students to the Colony to train. This time it's her turn to go with the students. She has a good friend with one of her students, and together they decide to go to the fights. When Kira gets an eyeful of Angh, she knows that she wants to have one fun-filled and dirty night with him. When he sees her, he knows that he wants so, so much more with her.

Their story is great. There are some sad points, and one point at which I got really, really mad at a secondary character. That person really deserved more than what happened, in my opinion. There are some terrible misunderstandings. But there are also bursts of light.

Great story, and the Atlans are always going to be my favorites. Always. ( )
