A return of "the Ripper" and missing South African diamonds are the challenges facing the team in episode seven of this very fine series. The characters are evolving nicely with information from the past blending nicely with current relationships and living arrangements. Assaults on the adult members of the team continue at such a rapid rate that perhaps the youngest member should be trained by Dr. Watson to be the first Victorian EMT. Taking down thugs and escaping from dangerous circumstances keep the team damaged but still stalwart as the plot moves briskly and in a coherent fashion. I have always distrusted books which try to add new characters to the Holmes-Watson dynamic, but here it's done to perfection. Lucy is a great, attractive character, smart and believable. And Holmes and Watson are their true selves, both their characters perfectly captured. This audiobook can be listen as a stand-alone story, as there are only brief mentions to previous cases and none it's related to the current one. The story itself has a very well constructed plot and will keep you hooked until the very end. And the narration adds to the general enjoyment of the book. A very recommended audiobook. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

Diamonds can be deadly. October 1897. Diamond mogul Cecil Rhodes wants Sherlock Holmes to break up a smuggling ring. Lucy James is preoccupied with her role as an actress and her upcoming wedding. And then, London's most infamous murderer makes a most unwelcome entrance. The Baker street team soon find themselves enmeshed in a deadly conspiracy, with tentacles that reach far beyond the shadows of Whitechapel. Lucy and Holmes will need more than their usual deductive brilliance to defeat their latest adversary, or else the case of the Ripper will be their last. If you love a strong heroine, a touch of romance, and a classic Holmes, you're going to love this fast-paced adventure. The Sherlock and Lucy Series has been recommended by the Library of Clean Reads. Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |

I really enjoy this series, good mysteries, strong characters and well-written. Although this is a standalone story I would recommend reading from Book One, if not already done so, to follow the development of the characters and their interplay.
