I made the mistake of pausing at the beginning of chapter 13 for a week, not realizing I was mere pages from the climax. Might have gotten a higher rating if I had properly read it straight through. Cute story of misunderstanding and latent feelings and a touch of angst. ( )

As usual Christi Caldwell has created a delightful tale of two people who seem to be uniterested in marriage and yet, even though they have known each other since childhood, they really don't know each other at all.
Heath, the ducal heir, seems to be a prim, proper gentlemen, very stand-offish and set apart. Emilia used to be a fun loving girl but she has turned inward since she was left almost at the altar but Heath's one and only friend.
What starts as an obligation to entertain their houseguest, Heath tries to be nice to Emilia. He struggles to connect, not becauee he doesn't have any feelings but because he feels too much. Since they were children he has admired her but hasn't had the courage to do anything about it. When his mother insists on his paying attention to Emilia he finally allows his true feeling to show.
So many books feature rakes and rogue and while they are fun, there is something to be said for a gentleman - one who puts the feelings of others before his own and who is careful with peoples feelings.
This is a beautifually written story and the as the relationship blossoms into love, you can't help but cheer for these two to find their Happily Ever After.
