I remember being read this story when I was a very little girl. I give this 5/5 stars because I think there is a great message for children in this book. The story follows a train who is delivering goods to children. Sadly, this train breaks down and is in need of help. The train asks oncoming trains for help but none of them do. It is until a tiny train passes by him seeing that he is in need. She is hesitant to take him up the mountain and is down on herself believing that she can't accomplish the task. Through perseverance she says to herself, "I think I can, I think I can." And by believing in herself she does just that. I think children needs book like this so they never feel like they are unable to accomplish goals set for themselves. It is so important to have the faith, courage, and confidence in yourself so that you can do anything you put your mind to, which is exactly what this book is trying to get across. I would read this to a kindergarten class and a first grade class because it does seem like it is made for a younger audience. I really enjoyed reading this book to my kids. The Little Engine That Could teaches kids a lesson that they can achieve anything in life if they believe in themselves. In the book, she is told that she can not pull the train over the mountain like the other trains could but that didn't deter her. The little engine never gave up as she repeated "I think i can" going over the mountain. It also teaches readers that no matter how hard life can be, never give up. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

I felt it was a rough to read. The pages start and stop at awkward places in sentences or situations. It just makes it rough to read to a kid. ( )
