CBS News and 60 Minutes reporter Scott Pelley has written a book about is 40 plus years reporting national and world news. Each chapter functions like an essay. Among the topics are Watergate, first and second Gulf wars, the Oklahoma City bombing, and most everything that has everything else that has happened in the last 40 years. Pelley has discussed the need for an independent and free press. In our current time where we have a President who "fake news" this is a reminder we all need to hear. ( ) For the past three plus years, we’ve heard over and over that the news media are the “enemy of the people.” I consider this charge to be among the most hideous, destructive, and untrue statements ever uttered by a president of the United States. Anyone who might be tempted to buy into this statement should read Scott Pelley’s book. He defines journalism at its best. He weaves journalism into the fabric of our democracy. “Enemy of the people”? Hardly. If you don’t have the time or desire to read Pelley’s book in its entirety, the next time you’re in a bookstore, grab a copy and read the last chapter. You owe it to yourself as a citizen of this country to do at least that. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

HTML:An inspiring memoir from the frontlines of history by the award-winning 60 Minutes correspondent. Don't ask the meaning of life. Life is asking, what's the meaning of you? With this provocative question, Truth Worth Telling introduces us to unforgettable people who discovered the meaning of their lives in the historic events of our times. A 60 Minutes correspondent and former anchor of the CBS Evening News, Scott Pelley writes as a witness to events that changed our world. In moving, detailed prose, he stands with firefighters at the collapsing World Trade Center on 9/11, advances with American troops in combat in Afghanistan and Iraq, and reveals private moments with presidents (and would-be presidents) he's known for decades. Pelley also offers a resounding defense of free speech and a free press as the rights that guarantee all others. Above all, Truth Worth Telling offers a collection of inspiring tales that reminds us of the importance of values in uncertain times. For readers who believe that values matter and that truth is worth telling, Pelley writes, "I have written this book for you.". Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
