Deze bespreking is geschreven voor LibraryThing Vroege Recensenten. I’m just not sure I got this book. It is certainly colorful and the story isn’t that obnoxious, but if my six year old picked it up at the library I probably would direct him to something else. The story is ok. It reads like a disjointed bed time tale. It does flow, but in the way a dream flows… you start at the grocery store looking for anchovies and somehow end up in high school scared you have forgotten the combination to your locker. The language is not beautifully crafted. It is one dimensional, no lovely descriptions, just this happened and then this and then this. I can see where the author was trying to be funny, but the burps and farts seemed like they were only there for shock value. I’m not against burps and farts in children’s literature per se, but it so very rarely is used well. Just not the picture books I’m used to I guess. Deze bespreking was geschreven voorLibraryThing lid Weggevers. ‘The Tale of Was and Das’ by Marin centers around some obnoxious things like farts and burps, but does have a nice storyline. What is notable is the word jugglery throughout the book that creates real fun, like bisecting the meaning of German Shepard, using two German words DAS and WAS in questionnaire, thesaurus instead of dinosaur, barking lot, funny signposts like ‘buy one, get one flea’ and so on. This book can be enjoyed by kids along with their family. There is also a take-home message for big kids like us on how to recycle garbage towards circular economy. I found the book enjoyable and constructive. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

Starts with dedication page and then the story.
The orphan boy Was and his dog Das live in a dumpster between Fartsville and Burptown.
They clean up the dumpster and find so many books they pile them on a higher level and now they have a library.
Was reads the books to Das. The smell is not so bad at the top either. To clean the area even further they decide to build a big dinosaur with all the items in the dumpster.
Love how they get others to help do this and the name of it. Such team work and recognition. love the outcome.
Children's very colorful full page pictures help tell the story along with the words. Thought this would be a much more darker read but it’s not at all.
