*****
It's always a bit of a slap in the face to realize how few options women had at certain times in history. Arabella and her twin Anabella lose the family store after their father's death. Anabella becomes a mail order bride--apparently with disastrous results though most details aren't included in this book. Needing money to pay for her sister's medical care, Arabella turns to the Pinkerton Agency.
Pinkertons matches her with a male agent and has them get married--and apparently, despite not much thought being put into the matches he makes, most of the couples end up falling in love and choosing to stay married even after their assignment is over, despite having the option to have the marriage annulled. (Which also brings up the question, if they do this and the people choose not to stay married, how many times can the same woman have a marriage annulled before people start to question it?
I don't see the attraction for Arabella based on the man's history. Yes, he does appear to be trying to change, but there is no guarantee that the change will stick or that it is true change at this point. ( )
