This was a buddy read and both of us got such a kick out of the mystery, characters, and the baking contest backdrop. I've read and loved the vampire knitting mysteries by the same author, and this one was equally charming, while also being quite different! There's a *fabulous cat* (in both series) joining in the fun. I hadn't considered it this way until after finishing the book but a reality TV setting is perfect for a locked room mystery. I'm looking forward to continuing with this series for sure. Recommend to all fans of cozies, and even better if you enjoy a little magic sparkle and a cute cat! The Great Witches Baking Show is a fun blend of witches, ghosts, a murder mystery, and all sorts of yummy desserts! My favorite aspect of cozy mysteries is the focus on unique characters who might also be a little eccentric. Nancy Warren excels at bringing us a cast of believable, intriguing, complex people to get to know. I’d be content to hang out with them and eat pastries all day. While the plot does involve a murder, the content maintains a lighter mood. Everything feels plausible, even the magic and ghosts! We have some great twists along the way, as we attempt to solve more than one mystery alongside Poppy. This is the first book in The Great Witches Baking Show mystery series. I’m looking forward to book two, which comes out in March. *I received a review copy as part of a blog tour.* This is the second book I have read by this author. The first book I recently read by this author was The Vampire Knitting Club. That book had me laughing with pure enjoyment. Thus I could not wait to pick up another book by this author. When I got the chance to read this book in a new series from this author, I jumped at the chance. While, I might not have laughed as hard; I did enjoy reading this book. Poppy is a great lead character. Although, she might be a bit "too nice". Don't get me wrong as being too nice is not a bad thing but if you are going to be an investigator, you have to be a bit tough. I am sure that as Poppy learns more about her witch skills she will grow strong. She reminds me of Nancy Drew, if Nancy was a witch. I look forward to reading the next book in this series. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

A baker with secrets. Witches in trouble. The cameras are rolling. On your marks, get set, die. Poppy Wilkinson is thrilled to be chosen as a contestant on The Great British Baking Contest. As an American with English roots, winning the crown as Britain's Best Baker would open doors she's dreamed of. In more ways than one. Appearing on the reality show is her chance to get into Broomewode Hall and uncover the secrets of her past. But strange things are happening on the show's set: Accusations of sabotage, a black cat that shadows Poppy, suspiciously unsociable residents at Broomewode Hall - and the judges can be real witches. There are murmurs that Broomewode is an energy vortex. It certainly makes Poppy see and do things that aren't exactly normal, and seems to draw interesting characters to the neighborhood. When a fellow contestant dies in mysterious circumstances, Poppy has more to worry about than burned pies and cakes that won't rise. There's a murderer on the loose and it's up to Poppy and her new friends to solve the crime before it becomes a real show-stopper. From USA Today best-selling author Nancy Warren, this delicious series of cozy paranormal mysteries will have you guessing until the end. Includes recipes. Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
