In this story a young girl is reminded of her childhood memories and adventures by wearing a white dress. This book uses lots of different animals, plants, and colors to describe the little girls experiences. I think I would use this in a 4th grade classroom and ask them to write one of their own memories in poetry. This book is good for a primary age group. It tells the story of a young girl whose dress takes on the parts of nature that she passes throughout her day in simple verse. I wouldn't use it for a lesson, but I'd consider having it in my classroom library to emphasize the power of even the simplest poetry. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
Some people have dresses for every occasion but Afiya needs only one. Her dress records the memories of her childhood, from roses in bloom to pigeons in flight, from tigers at the zoo to October leaves falling. A joyful celebration of a young girl's childhood, written by the late Coretta Scott King Book Award-winning Jamaican poet James Berry. -- provided by publisher. This book is about a young girl named Afiya who goes on new adventures every day that leave imprints on her white dress.
I would use this book to show the power of our imaginations, and as a way of introducing poetry to younger students.
