Jane Charles has done it again with this surprising addition to the Baxter Boys series. I thought for sure that this book was going to be about Christian and Bethany and their so to be born baby. They are in the book but the book centers around Dylan’s last missing sibling. As children they had all be separated and put into the foster system. Dylan has been searching since he turned 18 to find his brother and 2 sisters and had finally found all but his youngest sister. He was told that Jade was well situated in a foster home and therapists thought it would be better to leave her where she was until she turned 18 in a year.
When Jade’s foster parents find out that they are moving they cannot take their 5 foster children with them – this means they all must be placed somewhere but would anyone be able to take 5 older teens?
That is where Dylan comes in – he will be able to get custody of his sister and though he can’t take the other 4 they can be placed nearby. There’s only one problem – in her years in the foster system Jade had become almost silent – she could speak but rarely did and only then around people she was comfortable with.
Ms Charles does an amazing job of showing how hard it is to be in foster care – even when you are placed in a loving home. There is always the possibility of being separated at any moment and losing hat little family/ friends you have. Add that to the holidays and the stress is even higher. On a side note, Bethany is about to give birth any minute and you can imagine the confusion/ excitement in the house.
Unlike the other books in this series, the Happily Ever After doesn’t involve romance. Instead it is the happy reuniting of a family after 13 years apart – nothing can be happier at Christmas than that (and the birth of a baby too!)
