I shared this story with my 3-month-old grandson. He happily looked at the pictures while I read to him. When Alex encountered the dragon, however, my grandson turned to lock eyes with his mom. She and I laughed before I continued reading the book. The fact he remained quiet during the entire story means this book automatically rates 4*. The 5th star is because I love the underlying message being shared. Never give up. Even if you think you failed, if you tried your best, you are still a winner.

Nerijus Civilis did a fantastic job with the illustrations. The cartoon drawings help bring the story to life while the bold colors hold the young reader’s attention. I loved the pictures just as much as my grandson did!

I highly recommend this entertaining book to any child with a desire for adventure. I know my grandson and I will revisit Alex many times over the coming years. ( )

This is a beautifully illustrated children's book that explains how perseverance can really pay off in the end. Alex, like a lot of children his age, wants nothing more than to be a pirate. But first, he must go on a special quest before he can earn that title. This was a fun read about how Alex did just that! This would be a great book for parents to read alongside their children. ( )
